| Shore excursion companies (also known as Shore Ex or ground operators) design suitable day tours for passengers by packaging a range of products. They then sell these tours to cruise lines for sale on board the ship prior to arrival. Shore excursion companies negotiate rates from suppliers when they design the package, which can be up to two years or more before the scheduled visit.
Shore Excursion Companies arrange any necessary transport, catering arrangements and support to be able to ensure that passengers receive a good experience and value for money. They also act as a central point of contact for any tourism issues.
In addition to taking care of daytrips, tours and activities, ground handlers regularly organise passenger disembarkation and embarkation formalities in base or turnaround ports and transfer passengers to and from the airport, hotels or other modes of transport as required.
Most of the large cruise shipping lines use shore excursion companies. If you want your product to become part of a cruise day tour package you need to develop a relationship, over time, with the shore excursion companies.
