| Tasmania’s appeal as a cruise shipping destination is growing. 2008-09 saw continued growth as cruise visitor numbers (passengers and crew), increased by 27% from the previous year. This followed an increase of 44% in the previous 2007-08 season.
There were over 105,400 cruise visitors in 2008-09. About 75% of these visitors were from overseas, of which 36% were from the USA and 12% from the UK.
With increased home porting of ships in Australia, domestic cruise ship passengers are a growing market segment. In 2008-09 of all cruise visitors, 9% were from NSW and 8% were from Queensland.
Of all cruise visitors, roughly 70% were passengers (30% were crew).
